My brother and his wife have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of their 1st child, Kate Elizabeth.
They were expecting over 2 feet of snow on the day Kate was to come into the world. Luckily, Kate decided she wanted to get here early. She was born at 7:28 p.m. on February 19, 2013.
I drove up from Lawrence, KS to be there with the family. We waited all day to hear the lullaby played over the speaker system at the hospital. It's now my favorite song...
I am 42. My brother is in his late 30s. Our immediate family has not had a baby all this time. So the birth of Kate was a huge event in our lives! As a woman without children of her own, I've never quite understood what the fuss is about when someone has a baby. I always think "Babies are born every day and have been for centuries. What's the big deal?!?". Now: I get it. I totally get it. I am over the moon for this sweet baby girl. And it's not a loud boisterous kind of love and affection...it's a quite awe over just how precious and perfect she is. I want to hold and stare at her for the rest of my life! :)
Here's a few photos:
Look at her tiny diaper!!
Just moments after she was born.
It's so surreal that my mother is now a grandmother!
I was terrified to hold her. But we did okay together, I think.
To me, she looks just like my brother when he was a baby.
And underneath that little hat????
She's a little strawberry blonde!!!!!
